Easy to Care for House Plants

Filling your home with plants makes a massive difference. Not only can they help to purify the air, but having all that green around can really lift your mood. However, not everyone has green fingers and can find it difficult to care for plants, whether indoors or outdoors. If you’re one of those people, here is a list of some of the easiest house plants to care for.

Spider plants

Spider plants are an absolute Godsend for people who can’t keep plants alive. They don’t need watering all that often (once every few weeks) and actually prefer being pot bound! They look beautiful in hanging baskets with their cascading leaves, and produce little pups that can be potted into new plants.

Aloe

Aloe is a well-known family of plants that are very hardy and really easy to keep alive. However, the difference between a living aloe plant and a thriving one is massive, so they do enjoy a bit of care. Aloes generally prefer drier soil, so they can be watered every few weeks and left in a sunny spot. Considering they’re house plants, they can be taken outside during the summer, but make sure they don’t get too wet.

Lavender

An excellent house plant is Lavender, and is also great in the garden. Lavender thrives in conditions that are warm and dry (which is ideal), and this makes them really easy to care for. Simply pot them in some good quality soil with plenty of drainage, pop in a sunny spot, and they’ll be fine. They need watering every few weeks, but can look truly beautiful if cared for well. Also, as house plants they produce a lovely smell.

Succulents

Succulents are a great variety of house plants, and are perfect for those who have trouble keeping almost everything else alive. There are so many different kinds of succulent, and they come in all colours, shapes, sizes, and flowering types. Succulents can be used to build great feature pots, and need watering every few months. Some can even be grown out of soil, and are perfect house plants for even the most forgetful people.

Pothos

Pothos are a lovely family of house plants, and really appreciate lower light conditions than many others. This makes them ideal for bathrooms, or houses that have problems with light. They don’t mind the kind of soil they’re grown in, and only need to be watered every now and then. Pothos is a great choice for brightening up dingy rooms.

Just because you think you have difficulty caring for plants doesn’t mean you can’t have them in your home. All you need to do is be clever about which house plants you choose, and go for ones that suit your needs. Things like succulents and cacti are great as a starting point because they need very little attention, and you can use easy to care for house plants to train yourself into better care routines. Before you know it you’ll be growing your own orchids!
